-
0 - 2

Local currencies, percentage adjustments and rounding per market, and price lists per market where your plan allows them.

-
0 - 3
Domains & Subfolders
Subfolders, subdomains or country domains per market, with the hreflang tags Shopify generates checked after launch.

-
0 - 4
Translations
Translate & Adapt or a translation app, covering products, theme text, checkout and emails, not just the home page.

-
0 - 5
Duties & Taxes
Tax-inclusive prices where buyers expect them, and duties estimated at checkout or through an app, so parcels are not held on delivery.

-

Local Payments & Shipping
The payment methods buyers in each country know, and delivery rates and carriers set up per market.

When We Can Help
Shipping abroad is easy. Selling abroad takes setup.
-
/01
Buyers abroad see your currency
Prices in a currency they don't use, payment methods they don't know, duties they only find out about on delivery. We set up each market so the price at checkout is the price they pay.
-
/02
The store is only half translated
Product titles are translated, but filters, app widgets, checkout and emails still speak the default language. We find what is left and translate it with the right tool.
-
/03
One store or several?
Markets in one store, an expansion store or a separate store for one region. We compare what each costs to run before you commit, and we fix existing Markets setups that grew without a plan.
How We Set Up Markets
From the first market to orders from abroad.
-
Plan
Which countries, what changes in each, and which plan and apps that needs, written down before anything is configured.
-
Configure
Markets, currencies, prices, domains, payments, shipping and duties set up and checked market by market.
-
Translate & Adapt
Content translated with the right tool, and theme and app texts checked in every language.
-
Test & Launch
Test orders for each market, from price and taxes to payment, delivery and emails, then launch and watch real orders.

FAQ
Questions
we get asked
What is Shopify Markets?
Shopify's built-in tools for selling to other countries from one store. You group countries and regions into markets, and for each market you set the currency, prices, domain, languages, duties and taxes, payment methods and shipping. Everything is managed from the same Shopify admin.
Do we need Shopify Plus to sell internationally?
No. Markets, local currencies, translations and international domains work on standard plans; Shopify makes international domains available from the Basic plan up. Some features do need Plus, such as business entities and expansion stores, and custom catalogs for retail markets need Plus or POS Pro. We check your requirements against your plan before recommending an upgrade.
Can customers pay in their own currency?
Prices can be shown in local currency, but only stores with Shopify Payments or Adyen as the primary gateway can take the payment in the customer's currency. With other providers, checkout charges your store's default currency. Each market also lists the local payment methods that are eligible there, such as Bancontact for Belgium, and you choose which to turn on.
Subfolders, subdomains or country domains?
Shopify supports all three, as well as one domain for every market. Subfolders such as example.com/de are what Shopify recommends for a first international setup, and they are the simplest to run. Shopify creates hreflang tags for every international domain or subfolder you set up, and we check them after launch.
How do translations work on Shopify?
Translate & Adapt is Shopify's free app: you translate by hand, or automatically for up to two languages, and adapt wording between markets. For more languages or a translation workflow there are third-party apps. Once a language is published, checkout and notification emails appear in it too; we check what is still left in the default language.
Can we charge duties at checkout?
Shopify can collect an estimate of duties and import taxes at checkout, so buyers are not asked to pay on delivery. It needs HS codes on your products, has its own requirements and transaction fee, and where a store does not meet them, an app can calculate duties instead. US merchants, and some in Canada and the UK, can also use Managed Markets, where Global-e is the merchant of record.
One store with Markets, or a separate store per country?
Usually one store: one catalogue, one admin and one set of apps to maintain. A separate store makes sense when a region needs its own range, team or business rules, and Shopify Plus includes expansion stores for this. For Klott we created a separate store for one region and set up its delivery and payment methods.
Does Shopify Markets affect SEO?
Yes. Each market gets its own URLs, hreflang and translated content, and a wrong setup can show buyers the wrong country's prices in search. We set Markets up so each version can be indexed; keyword research and content per language are part of our SEO service.
